
The programme has been designed for the practitioners in clothing and related industries as well as interested students. It aims to equip students with necessary knowledge and skills so as to enhance their performance and competitiveness in the ever-changing environment. To meet the needs and learning styles of in-service personnel, the programme is structured to provide students the greatest flexibility to choose any modules and take the assessments of the programme.
The programme offers two levels of awards, Certificate and Diploma. To obtain relevant award, the students must follow the programme regulations and successfully complete the programme (attendance rate of at least 70% and pass in the assessments) of relevant modules. The certificate award of this programme mainly focuses on a chosen concentration. Students who completed 6 modules successfully can apply for the selected Certificate award. The diploma award has diverse nature and focuses across different areas. Students who completed 18 modules successfully can apply for the Diploma in Fashion and Textile Studies.
Programme Feature
The programme is module based. There are 3 concentrations (Pattern Design, Apparel Technology and Textile Technology). Under each concentration, there is a series of modules (please refer to “Programme Structure” for more details. As for the certificate award, students are required to complete 6 modules successfully, including 1 mandatory module (Knowledge of Materials), any 3 core modules from one of the concentrations and any 2 elective modules from the whole module list. To obtain a Diploma award, students are required to complete 18 modules successfully. In addition to the mandatory module (Knowledge of Materials), students have to take 17 elective modules from the module list to fit their particular needs and interest. Alternatively, students may obtain 3 Certificate awards and then apply for the Diploma award.
Entry Requirements
- Completion of secondary education or equivalent; OR
- Mature applicants over the age of 23 with at least 2 years of relevant work experience and obtain pass in admission test (subject to CITA’s approval).
Awards
- Students who complete 6 specified modules successfully can apply for one of the following certificate award:
– Certificate in Pattern Design (Code No.: CFTS-P)
– Certificate in Apparel Technology (Code No.: CFTS-A)
– Certificate in Textile Technology (Code No.: CFTS-T) - Students who successfully complete 18 modules or 3 certificates can apply for the Diploma award (Code No.: DCFTS).
Remarks
- Students may apply for module exemption which is subject to CITA’s approval. For the Certificate award, students can apply for exemption from at most 2 modules. For the Diploma award, students can apply for exemption from at most 5 modules.
- This programme is designed for life-long learning. There is no prescribed maximum study period, however, students have to note the validity period of each module. Students have to note that not all the modules are offered in each term.
